What a wonderful way to ring in this holiday season with the H&A team!

We were deLIGHTed by the dazzling holiday light installation at the historic Eleanor Cabot Bradley Estate in Canton, followed by a cozy – and heartwarming – dinner with colleagues and friends. In all, a most memorable evening of celebrating our terrific founding principal, our new president, one another and mark a great milestone in the firm’s history.

This season is a time for gratitude and reflection, for many reasons: H&A has been selected to help preserve, restore, and make accessible the historic Brooks Academy Museum in Harwich, MA. The building is a beloved emblem of local heritage and community identity.

Our team is supporting the Town of Harwich in caring for this treasured structure, which was built in 1844 as Pine Grove Seminary. Brooks Academy was founded to provide advanced education in a time when public secondary education didn’t yet exist in the area. It now serves as the home of the @harwichhistoricalcc and Brooks Academy Museum — a home for the town’s rich history and cultural artifacts. The building is part of the first district in Cape Cod listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

H&A’s own history includes more than 30 projects focused on historic preservation, and we are constantly modernizing aging buildings to meet today’s accessibility standards. In the Brooks Museum, we have truly found the perfect project! While we love its historical roots, we’re even more excited for the future of the Brooks Academy Museum.

H&A's whole team got together (yes, South Dakota was on site!) for our annual strategic planning meeting and picnic. It was a terrific chance to reconnect, reflect on our growth and milestones reached, and look at the goals we are setting for our modest-yet-mighty firm!

It’s truly inspiring to take a step back from the daily routine and look at the bigger picture: where we’ve been, where we’re heading, and how we’re evolving and advancing together.

And since no company retreat is complete without a little food, fun, and embarrassment, we headed outside for excellent home-cooked specialties, some all-telling trivia games, classic badminton and croquet, ill-fated cornhole attempts, and welcome laughs with cherished colleagues. Until our next one, we'll resume our happy daily routine - with some new memories in tow.

Building on several years of collaboration with the @worcesterschools to restore and revive Worcester East Middle School (among others), H&A is delighted to see the most recent phase of work at WEMS. Built over a century ago, this beautiful school is having all 378 windows replaced for the first time in its history.

It is deeply gratifying for our team to deliver generous daylight, natural ventilation, and modern, elegant design to the WEMS community with this project. These state-of-the-art windows will greatly increase the school’s energy efficiency, while preserving the historic sash pattern of the original design. Phase One is officially complete!

Gema, our Architectural Team Administrator, is the engine that keeps our technical practice on its toes, and always ahead of the curve. Her dedication, technological expertise, and linguistic talents all contribute to design excellence – both externally and internally.

Karen, the firm’s Controller, keeps our financial health in excellent shape through her meticulousness and care in her work. She is not only a solid hand with the bookkeeping, but a sought-after calm presence and a warm, friendly teammate that everyone is glad to see.

The entire H&A team is so grateful for everything you both do – congratulations! And we look forward to the next 12+ years with you.

We’re proud to celebrate the opening of the @cityofworcester new splash pad in University Park, a vibrant new community space to come play, stay, and get sprayed. Worcester’s top officials lauded the new neighborhood amenity at the ribbon-cutting this week, alongside key members of the design team. H&A and @bealsandthomas_ happily joined the proud group, which included several wet and smiling young patrons of the new park.

The publicly staffed spray park spans about 1,000 sf and features a new amenity building right on the site.

These images show our team atop the Massachusetts State House, one of the most beautiful and recognizable landmarks in our fair Commonwealth. As part of a detailed inspection and study of the roof and skylights over the Great Hall, we were able to tour the skies around this incredible building. The view from there is quite hard to rival. Many thanks to H&A’s talented Jamie Winkler, our BIM Manager and resident drone pilot, who overcame some nerves to get up there and bring back us this great footage. Current H&A team members Elizabeth Lewis, Thomas Peterson, and Adam Royle were all part of this exciting work.

A GREAT day for a GRAND OPENING!

The H&A team proudly joined City of New Bedford Mayor, Jon Mitchell, @newbedfordpublicschools Superintendent Andrew O'Leary, and the many rockstars of the city's Food Services staff for a formal ribbon cutting at the newly completed New Bedford Central Kitchen. This project, long in the works with H&A's design team, will serve as the culinary epicenter of all of New Bedford's public schools, as well as child-centered non-profits, parochial schools, and other local organizations - prepping and cooking for 49 locations, and providing nearly two million lunches to local kids.

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony was well-attended by city officials and school staff, and the new project is a shared point of pride for all who were a part of realizing this state-of-the-art facility. Gleaming new equipment, a light-filled cafe, and generous back-of-house spaces were carefully designed and constructed for the dedicated team. Smiles and high-fives abounded; the grinning kitchen manager, Armando Diaz, told us that "for me, this place is like Disney World!" We love that!

From its origins as a new car dealership in the 1930's, now to a beautiful, shining facility to feed the children of this vibrant city, this project is a terrific success built on incredible collaboration, innovation, and unwavering determination. Congratulations to all!

GLTS celebrated their Class of 2025 just yesterday, sending a new wave of skilled, curious young graduates into futures of discovery and success.

H&A was on site as well, visiting one of our most exciting projects (now nearing completion): a new facility designed for this incredible school’s one-of-a-kind Aviation Program. Talk about the coolest classroom ever: students come here to train for careers in avionics, aviation technology aircraft maintenance, blending traditional instruction with real-world experience.

While we were thrilled to see the project coming to life, we were on cloud nine to be in this amazing new space with the incredibly kind and talented GLTS community.

H&A’s commitment to great work that improves lives extends far beyond our office walls – and our working hours. The past two weekends alone have seen our passionate team cooking, running, and walking for great causes around the region.

To celebrate Cinco de Mayo recently, H&A team members cooked meals with corazón at the Providence Ronald McDonald House. The RMH charities house families whose children are facing medical crises; a mission we heartily support, and one that changed the life of one of our own teammates. Compassion, cuisine, and community support were what H&A designed last weekend!

@schoolonwheelsma provides tutoring, mentoring, and supplies to local students facing housing instability. This past Saturday found H&A on the move to support SOWMA in the annual “Run, Walk, Wag” 5K fundraiser. Even if the weather didn’t cooperate, our team, their families, and four-legged companions all went the distance for a game-changing cause. Oh, and honorary H&A teammate Alicia Cutter brought home the first-place trophy for the group!
