Recognizing the need for improvements to their 6 active and 3 inactive elementary schools due to increased enrollment and aging facilities, the Town of Braintree MA commissioned H&A to conduct a Master Planning Study. The master planning process began by conducting an inventory of all space within the 9 buildings, a review of the site conditions, and constraints and assessment of the existing physical conditions.
Simultaneously, a current and future Space Needs Assessment was conducted and examined for pre-kindergarten through grade 5 students. In consultation with the school administration, space planning criteria was established for specific room sizes, number of students per class, and number of support areas.
Designed to be phased over a period ranging from 6 to 10 years, the space requirements for the projected student population was calculated and 5 options developed which all meet the long range needs of the schools.
